Several hundred tracked objects, checked against your horizon. Positions are calculated in your browser from orbital element sets published by Celestrak, not looked up from a server.

Elevation is the angle above your horizon; azimuth is the compass bearing to look. An object being above the horizon does not make it visible: most are too faint to see without optics, and the ones that are visible need darkness at your position and sunlight on the satellite.
